Questions

Common questions about pricing

Is the price on the website what I'll pay?

The prices are a guide for most jobs. Once I've seen your photos or had a chat, I'll confirm your price before any work starts.

Are the prices per item?

Yes. Prices are per item, so five pictures costs more than one. Several jobs on the same visit can work out cheaper per item, and I'll always confirm your total before I start.

Why is picture hanging priced as a range?

It depends on the size and weight of the piece and the wall it's going on. A small frame on a solid wall is at the lower end; a large, heavy mirror on plasterboard needs stronger fixings and more time.

Can you supply the TV bracket?

Yes. If you don't have one, I can supply a bracket that suits your TV and wall and include it in the price.

Why don't you list a price for panelling or plastering?

Every wall is different. For panelling I'll have a chat or come and take a look, and for plastering I'll need a few photos before I can give you an honest price.

Why does redoing old sealant cost more?

Cutting out and cleaning off the old sealant is the most time-consuming part of the job. Sealing a new bath, shower or basin is quicker, so it costs less.

Can you do electrical work?

Only minor jobs like replacing light fittings, sockets and switches. I'm not a qualified electrician, so anything that falls under Part P needs a qualified electrician.

Do you do bespoke carpentry?

No. I fit shelving, but bespoke carpentry and built-in units aren't something I do. I'll point you to someone who can.

Are you insured?

Yes. I'm fully insured for the work I do in your home, and any trusted trades I bring in through Local Treasures are covered by its insurance.

Do you fit stair gates and childproofing?

Yes, from £25 per item. Stair gates, cupboard locks and anchoring furniture and TVs to the wall so they can't tip. Your children's safety is the priority, so every fitting is checked before I leave.

Which areas do you cover?

Farnham and the surrounding area shown on my map, including Aldershot, Farnborough, Fleet and Guildford. Put your postcode in the form and I'll confirm.

How do I pay?

By bank transfer or cash when the job's done. For priority bookings, a £50 deposit by bank transfer secures your date once I've confirmed I can fit you in. It's part of your priority fee, not an extra charge.

Do you charge VAT?

No. I'm not VAT registered, so the price I quote is the price you pay.

Do you take away rubbish and packaging?

For small jobs I tidy up and put any packaging in your own bin. For flat-pack, I flatten the boxes for your recycling. If you'd like me to take it away, waste removal starts from £35, depending on how much there is. I'll include it in your quote if you ask.

What if I need to cancel or move my booking?

Just let me know as early as you can. With less than 24 hours' notice, there's a £25 late cancellation charge. For priority bookings, the £50 deposit isn't refundable with less than 24 hours' notice.

Do you work evenings or weekends?

My normal hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. I can sometimes do evenings or weekends. These are charged at priority booking rates plus 10%, so a £100 job would be £160.

What's the £65 call-out?

£65 is my minimum charge for any visit, and it covers my first hour. If you'd like me to come and take a look at something first, that visit is £65, paid upfront by bank transfer to book it. I can't always guarantee a fix in that first hour, but I'll tell you honestly what it needs before doing more.

What does my quote include?

Your quote states exactly what's included, including any materials, so there are no surprises on the day.

What is the Postcode Perk?

Book with a neighbour and you both save. If you and a neighbour with the same postcode both have jobs for me, and I can do them on the same day, you each get 15% off your job price. For example, jobs of £200 and £300 become £170 and £255. The discount doesn't apply to priority fees or waste removal. Tick the Postcode Perk box on the quote form and tell me who your neighbour is. I need to know their jobs too, so they can either send their own request, or you can add their jobs to yours and I'll split the bill on the day.

Do you offer a free key safe?

Yes. When your confirmed job comes to £250 or more, I'll supply and fit a combination key safe free on the same visit (worth £55). Just tick the box on the quote form. Priority fees don't count towards the £250, and it's one per household.
